About the Program

Patient Care Technician students have the opportunity to learn real-world, hands-on skills to become a valued, multi-skilled healthcare team member. As a patient care technician you will assist patients with day-to-day activities, maintain safe patient environments of care, take vital signs, perform electrocardiography (EKG), collect blood and other lab specimens, and assemble equipment/supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures by physicians and nurses. Since patient care technician’s work with patients and other members of the healthcare team on a daily basis, solid communication skills, empathy, and attention to patient needs are paramount.

Patient care technicians are employed in settings including hospitals, continuing care communities, rehabilitation units, and dialysis centers. Students in the patient care technician program have the opportunity earn state and national credentials within program courses with no additional out-of-pocket expense above and beyond tuition.

The program consists of stackable certificate, technical certificate, and associate degree options and may be completed either full-time or part-time basis.

Completion guides provide the recommended path to graduation, broken out by 8-week term. Courses are also numbered to show an overall number for students taking fewer classes at a time. Please consult with your advisor to determine which classes are the best option for you to take.
