DEGREE OUTCOMES


  1. Construct arguments using proper legal terminology.  
  2. Differentiate between the Indiana Trial Rules and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
  3. Analyze a legal problem by researching both primary and secondary legal authorities, evaluating the binding versus nonbinding nature of the authorities found, and applying this distinction to construct a written legal argument that includes proper citations.
  4. Draft a variety of pleadings, motions, and other legal documents by analyzing a given set of facts to determine jurisdictional requirements, to identify parties to a lawsuit, and to prioritize methods of discovery.
  5. Interpret the responsibility of various legal professionals with respect to the rules of professional conduct and the role that the Indiana Supreme Court plays in the regulation of lawyers and paralegals.
  6. Compose status letters, opinion letters, appointment letters, engagement letters, cover letters, demand letters, and general client correspondence using the rules of English grammar and style, including, but not limited to word usage, identify common errors, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, rules of composition, formal writing style, and sentence structure.
  7. Analyze the elements of an enforceable contract by differentiating between common law contract and UCC principles and describing the differences between common types of business entities as well as the principles of agency underlying each. 
  8. Integrate a calendaring, scheduling, billing, docketing, filing and e-filing system demonstrating an understanding of law office technologies, including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, electronic databases, and dictation.
