This course will introduce students to advanced database administration concepts utilizing Microsoft database technologies. Focusing on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database , students will learn about administration tasks, performance tuning, advanced security, automation, and high availability configurations unique to Microsoft’s traditional, cloud, hybrid, and cross-platform environments.

 

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

 

  1. Deploy and manage Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database instances.
  2. Explore the use of performance tuning, query optimization, and index management for efficient database operations.
  3. Evaluate the configuration of Microsoft-specific High Availability/Disaster Recovery options.
  4. Configure security measures specific to Microsoft databases.
  5. Utilize scripting to automate administrative tasks.
  6. Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using SQL Server tools and Azure Monitor.
  7. Implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies within SQL Server and Azure environments.
  8. Manage data migration and synchronization between on-premises and cloud or hybrid Microsoft databases.
  9. Discuss strategies for auditing Microsoft databases to ensure compliance with data regulation standards.
