This course introduces the student to underground systems including drawings, materials, and installation practices. Installing, splicing, and terminating cables. Fusing, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and job site safety issues.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Describe underground distribution and transmission systems. (A, B, C, E)
- Work with electrical and civil drawings. (B, C, D)
- Explain and use work orders. (B, C, D, F)
- Splice cables and use cable termination tools. (B, C, E)
- Pull, tag and locate cables. (B, C, E)
- Prepare and install underground apparatus. (B, C, D)
- Bond and ground pad-mounted and subsurface structures. (B, C, D)
- Properly fuse transformers and switchgear. (B, C, D)
- Check fuses. (B, C, D, E)
- Perform system maintenance tasks. (B, C, E)
- Troubleshoot and repair underground equipment. (B, C, E)
- Prepare the job site and become certified for work in confined spaces. (B, C, D)
