Introduces students to the International Classification of Diseases coding system and provides the background and skills needed for assigning and sequencing of codes in accordance with approved guidelines.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Utilize technologies for health information management.
- Determine diagnosis and procedure codes and grouping in accordance with official guidelines.
- Describe components of revenue cycle management and clinical documentation improvement.
- Identify current regulations and guidelines in clinical classification systems regarding present on admission, and UHDDS guidelines.
- Describe ethical coding practices.
