Serves as a further understanding of industrial controls utilizing PLCs (programmable logic controllers). Students will advance their learning of PLC control systems with a focus on installation and troubleshooting.  This course will use lecture, lab, online simulation and programming to prepare students for certification assessment through SACA, Smart Automation Certification Alliance.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Assemble and install a basic PLC project. [a,e]
  2. Specify and select appropriate input/output modules. [a,e]
  3. Integrate programmable control devices with electromechanical devices to achieve control objectives. [a]
  4. Analyze, debug and diagnose systems involving programmable controllers to determine fault areas and resolve issues. [a,b,e]
  5. Design and develop PLC programs using advanced instructions such as GSV’s, UDT’s, and Add on Instructions. [a,e]
  6. Troubleshoot and Repair PLC controlled systems. [a,e]
  7. Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b,e]
  8. Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
  9. Recall fundamental content to meet/exceed the cut-score for the SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) SACA C-208 Programmable Controller Troubleshooting I - Silver Certification.
