Examines the operation and design of mechanical systems including belt drives, chain drives, gearboxes, and bearings. Includes the proper use of portable tools and the study of different metals.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Discuss and demonstrate basic maintenance mechanical skills related to power transmission equipment. [b,e,f]
- Recognize different ferrous and nonferrous metals and describe their properties. [a]
- Discuss and demonstrate metal fatigue and component failure. [b,e,f]
- Be able to discuss and use on the job proper maintenance, repair, replacement and troubleshooting techniques on belt drives, chair drives and gear drives. [b,e,f]
- Be able to discuss and use on the job proper maintenance, repair, replacement and troubleshooting techniques for journal and ball bearings. [b,e,f]
