Applies previous knowledge of etiology and pathophysiology to provide an understanding of the health care needs of adults and geriatric patients experiencing complex alterations in health. Examines the role of the practical nurse in the acute care and long-term care setting. Relates principles of growth and development to the needs of geriatric patients. Examines leadership skills within the scope of practice for the licensed practical nurse.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Analyze the role of the practical nurse in relation to nursing care of adults in the acute care and long-term care setting as a member of the inter/intraprofessional team. (SLO 7, 8)
- Apply the nursing process to the care of adults experiencing complex alterations in health in collaboration with the inter/intraprofessional team. (SLO 4)
- Examine the ordered plan of treatment of adults experiencing complex alterations in health. (SLO 3, 4)
- Relate the nursing process to the care of individuals experiencing alterations in mental health. (SLO 5, 6)
- Identify characteristic assessment findings, teaching, and unique health care needs of adults and geriatric patients as they related to collaborative, safe, culturally competent, and holistic patient-centered care. (SLO 2, 4, 6, 8)
- Examine leadership skills within the scope of practice for the licensed practical nurse. (SLO 1, 8)
