PARM 210 - Medical I

Contact Hours: Lecture: 4.5  Lab: 3  Clinical NA  Total 7.5

Pulmonology, respiratory management and pharmacological interventions are covered in detail. Cardiology and dysrhythmia recognition relative to prehospital intervention are emphasized. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification must be earned during this course.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to demonstrate competency and integrate comprehensive knowledge of National EMS Educational Standards for the following topic areas:

• Respiratory
• Cardiovascular

Ivy Tech Community College cannot guarantee that any student will pass a certification or licensing exam. Your success will be determined by several factors beyond the instruction you are given in the classroom including your test-taking skills, your willingness to study outside of class, and your satisfactory completion of appropriate practice exams. Certification and licensure exam questions are drawn from databases of hundreds of possible questions; therefore, a thorough understanding of the subject matter is required. The goal of Ivy Tech in providing a certification exam studies class is to assist you in understanding material sufficiently to provide a firm foundation for your studies as you prepare for the exam.

Eligibility to sit for the certification or licensure exam will be determined by the region’s program chair based on successful completion of all program requirements, as well as the program’s medical director based on the student’s competency as required by the program’s accrediting body.
