Provides opportunities to observe, perform, and discuss various Patient Care Technician procedures and competencies under supervision in lab and/or clinical settings.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Perform duties of a Patient Care Technician at a clinical or simulated clinical site based on required clinical competencies, supervision and the instructor.
  2. Follow established safety and privacy precautions.
  3. Interact with patients, subject, and peers in a professional manner.
  4. Explain procedures to patient, subject, and peers.
  5. Apply professional liability and health and safety requirements, to include standard precautions.
  6. Relate anatomy, physiology and appropriate medical terminology to procedures performed.


COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include -  

  • Observations at clinic or hospital or lab/simulated clinical environment
  • Patient Care Technician related issues.
  • Patient Care Technician completes competencies in simulated or actual clinical settings
Ivy Tech cannot guarantee that any student will pass a certification or licensing exam. The goal of providing a certification exam studies class is to assist you in understanding the material sufficiently to provide a firm foundation for your studies as you prepare for the exam.

CERTIFICATION EXAM

All students enrolled in this course are required to take the corresponding certification exam at some point on or before the last day of the course. The application fee is paid as a consumable fee at the beginning of the course. Because this exam is a required activity, failure to take the exam will result in the student receiving a grade no higher than a C for the course.
