HSPS 260 - Fire Department Specifications


PREREQUISITES: HSPS 160 - Fire Apparatus and Equipment .

Outlines the process used for the purpose of purchasing new fire apparatus or refurbishing existing apparatus. Addresses all associated equipment required on the apparatus in accordance with NFPA Standard 1500 and 1901. In addition the student will learn how the standards are applied during each phase of the bid specification process.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Justify purchasing a new apparatus.
  2. Describe the different types and features of apparatus.
  3. Describe between new purchase and refurbishment.
  4. List the needed documents.
  5. List special apparatus features.
  6. Name the types of apparatus equipment needed.
  7. List the final specification for apparatus.
  8. Evaluate the bids.
  9. Describe the final inspections.
