HSPS 270 - Contingency Planning


PREREQUISITES: HSPS 102 - Introduction to Public Safety .

Students learn how to develop an emergency response contingency plan for a facility or community. Preparedness includes analyzing the hazards, writing and implementing the contingency plans, training employees for an emergency, and evaluating the effectiveness of the contingency plan.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Conduct a hazards analysis for a hypothetical community.
  2. Develop a facility contingency plan that complies with 29 CFR 1910.120 and/or develop a community contingency plan.
  3. Incorporate relevant National Response Team Planning elements.
  4. Describe a method of auditing a contingency (emergency response) plan.
  5. Given employer hazardous materials data, identify applicable regulations and recommend compliance strategies to meet the requirements of Title III of the “Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986.
