Advanced level elective course focusing on theories of behavior modification. Develops understanding of terms and practical applications of theoretical approaches used in working with people.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Discuss behavioral theories and terminology.
- Compare and contrast models of behavioral change.
- Analyze effectiveness of theories used for changing behavior.
- Develop theoretical orientation for effective behavior-changing strategies.
- Acquire skills needed to specify a target behavior and develop a baseline.
- Be able to formulate realistic and measurable goals.
- Evaluate techniques used to increase or decrease behavior.
- Display understanding of and when to use techniques such as designing a behavioral contract and evaluating effectiveness of plan and need for modification.
