Advanced level elective course focusing on theories of behavior modification. Develops understanding of terms and practical applications of theoretical approaches used in working with people.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss behavioral theories and terminology.
  2. Compare and contrast models of behavioral change.
  3. Analyze effectiveness of theories used for changing behavior.
  4. Develop theoretical orientation for effective behavior-changing strategies.
  5. Acquire skills needed to specify a target behavior and develop a baseline.
  6. Be able to formulate realistic and measurable goals.
  7. Evaluate techniques used to increase or decrease behavior.
  8. Display understanding of and when to use techniques such as designing a behavioral contract and evaluating effectiveness of plan and need for modification.
