MEAS 209 - Electronic Administrative Practices


PREREQUISITES: MEAS 109 - The Professional Medical Assistant HLHS 101 - Medical Terminology  and Program Chair Approval

Provides instruction in administrative functions in the ambulatory healthcare setting to include appointment management and basic finance functions using practice management and electronic health records systems.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss applications of electronic technology in professional communication (VC8)
  2. Compose professional correspondence utilizing electronic technology (VP8)
  3. Define types of information contained in patient’s medical record (VIC4)
  4. Identify methods of organizing the patient’s medical record based on: (VIC5)
    1. Problem-oriented medical record (POMR)
    2. Source-oriented medical record (SOMR)
  5. Identify equipment and supplies needed for medical records in order to: (VIC6)
    1. Create
    2. Maintain
    3. Store
  6. Differentiate between electronic medical records (EMR) and a practice management system (VIC8)
  7. Explain the importance of data back-up (VIC11)
