MRTC 173 - Motorcycle Transmission/Drive Service and Repair

This course studies theory and operation, diagnosis, testing and repair of motorcycle transmissions and drivelines.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while overhauling and repairing engines.
  2. Identify tools and equipment used in transmission/driveline repair.
  3. Inspect and determine serviceability of transmissions/drivelines according to manufacturer specifications.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of transmission powerflow.
  5. Inspect synchronizer assemblies for wear and damage.
  6. Inspect gear assemblies for wear and damage.
  7. Disassemble a motorcycle transmission for service.
  8. R & R transmission and driveline components.
  9. Diagnose and or repair the shaft and/or differential assembly.
