Builds into more advanced set up and operation topics for CNC machining utilizing machines with more than 3 axis capability. This course teaches students to operate and set up these types of machines.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate ability to operate various machine controls and utilize advanced controller functions for machine operation. [a]
- Demonstrate ability to perform advanced setups and accurately locate work and tool offsets for each type of machine. [a]
- Demonstrate ability to set up advanced tooling and machine accessories properly for each machine. [a]
- Demonstrate ability to utilize advanced workholding accessories with each type of machine. [a]
- Demonstrate ability to apply proper operational preventative maintenance for each piece of equipment. [e]
- Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot basic types of machining problems. [e]

- Unique G and M code functions
- Process sequencing
- Tooling capabilities and selection
- Threading and Thread Whirling
- Material Preparation
- Bar feed and loader interfacing
- Coolant: flood, mist, through-the-tool
- Compensations: tool nose radius, tool shape, tool wear
- Creating process plans and tooling routings
- Advanced Machine Setup and Operation Techniques
- Simultaneous machining
- Live tooling
