Introduces the student to the basic fundamentals of mold design and construction. The processes and basic construction of plastic molds, molds for die-castings and rubber molds are discussed. Each student in the class will design, build and inject their mold(s).
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Define and describe the different characteristics of plastics used in molding. (f)
- Define and describe materials for die casting processes. (f)
- Describe basic manufacturing processes of molded products. (f)
- Describe material selections for various mold making and mold life. (f)
- Identify mold components and their functions. (e,f)
- Describe the function, capabilities and limitations of various molding processes. (f)
