MTTC 225 - Introduction to Mold Making


PREREQUISITES:  Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 0XX and MATH 0XX and MTTC 102 - Turning Processes I , and MTTC 103 - Milling Processes I , and MTTC 105 - Abrasive Processes I ;

OR

 Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 0XX and MATH 0XX, and MTTC 110 - Turning and Milling Processes , and MTTC 105 - Abrasive Processes I .

Introduces the student to the basic fundamentals of mold design and construction. The processes and basic construction of plastic molds, molds for die-castings and rubber molds are discussed. Each student in the class will design, build and inject their mold(s).

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Define and describe the different characteristics of plastics used in molding. (f)
  2. Define and describe materials for die casting processes. (f)
  3. Describe basic manufacturing processes of molded products. (f)
  4. Describe material selections for various mold making and mold life. (f)
  5. Identify mold components and their functions. (e,f)
  6. Describe the function, capabilities and limitations of various molding processes. (f)
