PARM 105 - EMT- Ambulance Internship


PREREQUISITES: PARM 102 - Emergency Medical Technician

Students will participate in a field internship that provides on the job experience in all phases of pre-hospital life support. All skills tested by the National Registry Exam will be formally reviewed and practiced. A general review of the total curriculum will be presented. The student’s practical skills experienced through PARM 102 - Emergency Medical Technician   and this course must demonstrate competency in the objectives listed as required by the National Standard Curriculum, DOT, 1998.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS

  1. Demonstrate the ability to safely move patients.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to safely assess vital signs for patients in all age groups.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to safely perform airway management to the scope of practice.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to safely administer medication allowed in the scope of practice.

AGES

  1. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment on pediatric patients.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform a compressive assessment on adult patients.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment on geriatric patients.

PATHOLOGIES

  1. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment on obstetric patients.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment on trauma patients.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment on psychiatric patients.

COMPLAINTS

  1. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment, formulate and implement a treatment plan for patients with chest pain.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment, formulate and implement a treatment plan for adult patients and pediatric patients with dyspnea/respiratory distress.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment, formulate and implement a treatment plan for patients with syncope.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment, formulate and implement a treatment plan for patients with abdominal complaints i.e. abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, GI bleeding, gynecological complaint, etc.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to perform a comprehensive assessment, formulate and implement a treatment plan for patients with altered mental status.

  1. Demonstrate the ability to serve as a team leader in a variety of prehospital emergency situations.
