PARM 242 - Community Paramedicine II PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITE: PARM 240 - Community Paramedicine I and Program Chair Approval

This course is the second of two courses focused on the preparation of a community paramedic. The course will focus on the application, clinical care, and skills of a community paramedic within the healthcare system and in a variety of settings and with a variety of identified populations. After the completion of the course, individuals will be eligible to take the Community Paramedic Certification (CP-C) exam through the International Board of Specialist Certification (IBSC).
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Apply principles and knowledge base obtained in PARM 240 - Community Paramedicine I .
- Demonstrate an understanding of the systems of care and the role of a community paramedic in the healthcare system.
- Demonstrate ability to assess patients who require more than medical care and apply the appropriate risk mitigation strategies based on social determinants of health.
- Demonstrate skills in assessment, treatment, and/or stabilize acute illnesses and injuries.
- Manage patients with sub-acute, semi-chronic, and chronic conditions in the community setting.
- Demonstrate the principles of proper documentation, including the ethical and legal principles of information management, and how to reconcile a patient’s medications.
- Describe the purpose of community outreach.
