VISC 209 - 3D Animation I

Examines the virtual world of 3D and how it can be applied as an illustration and animation element in multimedia. Students will explore navigation, modeling, rendering, animation, and camera and lighting techniques.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Apply the ability to employ available 3D rendering and animation software packages.
  2. Construct and render 3D models and textures for use in static and dynamic simulated environments.
  3. Utilize constructed environments and models in various animations techniques.
  4. Explain the history of computer animation.
  5. Evaluate the possibilities of computer animation and how it is utilized in a variety of industries today.


COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include -  

  • Navigate within the XYZ axis.
  • Build 3D models, shapes, and objects.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the camera; it’s navigation and focal lengths.
  • Demonstrates lighting principles.
  • Create special effects with text.
  • Animate objects and logo designs.
  • Discuss various rendering techniques.
  • Demonstrates the use of extruding and lathe tools.
  • Demonstrates the creation of surface libraries and applies created surfaces to objects.
  • Animate objects along set paths.
  • Explain and demonstrate animation-linking techniques.
