VISC 115 - Vector Graphics and Publication Design I


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing  and ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College , or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading & Writing .

This course introduces students to computer graphics and publication design in visual communications. These skills are developed through work with professional vector-based, and page layout software used in the industry.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Navigate within the computer’s operating environment.
  2. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the hardware components and peripherals.
  3. Execute fundamental type formatting and editing.
  4. Develop the critical basics of effective page layout software operation.
  5. Utilize illustration tools to manipulate paths and anchor points.
  6. Recognize graphic file formats and appropriate uses.

  • Panels-control, properties, color, swatches, transparency, brushes, align/distribute, gradients, pathfinder, character, paragraph

  • Paths/anchor points
  • Artboard
  • Layers
  • Master pages, document pages, single & facing pages
  • Fundamental type formatting including character & paragraph styles
