NANO 204 - Materials in Nanotechnology


PREREQUISITES: NANO 111 - Materials Safety and Equipment Overview for Nanotechnology , and NANO 202 - Characterization and Testing of Nanotechnology Structures and Materials .

This course is an in-depth, hands-on exposure to materials fabrication approaches used in nanofabrication. Students learn that these processes can be guided by chemical or physical means or by some combination of these. Hands-on exposure will include self-assembly, colloidal chemistry, solar cell fabrication, template guided electrodeposition.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Have strong knowledge of nanoparticles, their synthesis and application.
  2. Know how nanomaterials can be used for biological applications.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of quantum dots, nanowires and other building blocks of bottom-up nanofabrication.
  4. Be familiar with application of PDMS in nanotechnology.
