Applies knowledge of etiology and pathophysiology to provide an understanding of the health care needs of children, childbearing and childrearing families. Examines the role of the licensed practical nurse within the interprofessional team while applying the nursing process and implementing the ordered plan of treatment for children, childbearing and childrearing families. Introduces growth and development components and how they impact therapeutic communication, therapeutic interventions, and teaching-learning techniques when providing nursing care to children, childbearing, and childrearing families.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Analyze the roles of the licensed practical nurse in relation to coordination and continuity of care as they collaborate with other members of the inter/intra professional team to provide quality, evidence-based patient care to children, childbearing and childrearing families. (SLO 1, 4, 5)
- Describe the etiology pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of alterations in health to care of children, childbearing, and childrearing families. (SLO 2)
- Apply principles of the nursing process and integration of electronic health records data to provide culturally competent and evidence based care of children, childbearing and childrearing families.(SLO 3, 4, 6)
- Examine the ordered plan of treatment for children experiencing alterations in health. (SLO 1, 2)
- Examine the ordered plan of treatment for childbearing women and their babies through normal pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery. (SLO 1, 2).
- Examine the ordered plan of treatment of childbearing and childrearing women and their babies experiencing alterations in health. (SLO 1, 2).
- Apply principles of growth and development and nutrition to the healthcare needs of children and childbearing women. (SLO 1, 2, 6)
- Identify the unique needs of maternal child patients and families using the family centered care approach (SLO 1, 6 )
- Identify the health teaching needs of children, childbearing and childrearing families, including behaviors that promote wellbeing. (SLO 2, 5).
