An in-depth course that focuses on the morphology, structure, and function of deciduous and permanent teeth and surrounding tissues.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomical structures and landmarks of the oral cavity and face.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the numbering systems utilized in dentistry.
- Define occlusion and identify the various classes of occlusion according to Angles’ classification.
- Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of anatomical and morphological nomenclature, as applied to the human dentition.
- Identify and describe the individual parts of a tooth as well as the name and functions of individual teeth.
- Describe the morphology of the primary dentition and the differences between primary and permanent dentition.
- Describe the stages of tooth development, root formation, eruption, and the anomalies that can occur during this time.
- Recite the eruption patterns of the primary and permanent
