Explores diversity and its relationship to the provision of effective health care. Exposes the students to a variety of theories, viewpoints, and communication patterns within and across various cultures, ethnic groups, religions, and sexual identifications.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Explore theories of cultural diversity.
- Recognize common cultural diversity terminology.
- Identify awareness of individual cultural values and sensitivity to those of other cultural backgrounds.
- Analyze the impact of diverse communication patterns on the provision of effective healthcare.
- Describe the variations in views of health and healthcare practices among major ethnic and religious groups.
- Identify considerations that healthcare providers may need to modify the delivery of care to culturally diverse populations.
