LOGM 101 - Introduction to Materials Management


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing  and ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College , or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading & Writing

Studies factors influencing the flow of materials in a manufacturing enterprise. Covers basics of production planning and control, purchasing, forecasting, inventory and distribution issues. Concludes with an overview of just-in time theory and practices.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe factors that influence materials flow.
  2. Plan and control manufacturing systems.
  3. Improve communications and understanding of all functions in a manufacturing process.
  4. Develop an understanding of cost trade-offs in a manufacturing enterprise.
