POLS 220 - Public Administration


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing  and ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College  or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading & Writing

This course focuses on bureaucracy in the federal government and its relation to local and state agencies.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe the fundamental characteristics that define the administrative phase of the political process.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the constituent aspects of the processes of government.
  3. Examine the institutional dimensions of the domestic political scene.
  4. Analyze the processes of governmental administration in U.S. federal, state, and local systems.
  5. Interpret the dynamic relationships among governmental regulatory agencies and the private sector.
  6. Analyze the interactions among interest groups and government agencies.
  7. Describe and evaluate the evolving character of government at all levels.
  8. Identify the key public administrative officials.
  9. Critically evaluate contemporary public administrative issues based on current research.
