Provides intermediate instruction in practical and creative page layout. Uses an industry standard desktop publishing package designed for single and multi-page documents as a tool for executing layouts.  Produces samples for student portfolios, which may include stationery, charts, forms, brochures, and calendars.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Refine the ability to solve communication design problems.
  2. Visualize ideas by means of thumbnail sketches as the first step in developing concepts.
  3. Design creative, practical concept-based design solutions for specific industry-based situations.
  4. Select the appropriate software to build components for a layout on the computer.
  5. Produce professional quality, computer generated layouts within a specified time frame.
  6. Design with regard to space and medium specifications.
  7. Utilize and develop advanced typographic design skills.
  8. Prepare computer files in a correct and practical manner to obtain appropriate output.
  9. Prepare and deliver a professional presentation of projects for critique, which explains how the design will be used, resulting in a collective body of work.
