GLOB 101 - Global Indiana

Students will learn to understand and compare their own and others’ perspectives on multiculturalism, develop intercultural communication skills, build global awareness and increase their knowledge, skills and awareness of international and intercultural factors that influence business and decision making. Students will explore and research questions of global significance that relate to Indiana’s current and future global connections. This course will require a local internationalized experience that allows students to apply and advance global and intercultural skills and understanding.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Analyze an audience and adapt presentations, utilizing presentational aids when appropriate to cross-cultural audiences accordingly.
  2. Apply Principles of composition to the development of oral presentations, such as effective organization, efficient outlining and temporal considerations.
  3. Develop ideas with credible forms of support and appropriate documentation toward intercultural communication.
  4. Recognize and demonstrate nonverbal communications appropriate to expressed verbal messages and comprehend cultural competencies associated with these messages and their effect on the business environment.
  5. Actively listen to and critically evaluate oral presentations in order to provide feedback.
  6. Apply the fundamental concepts of effective public speaking through a minimum of four significant oral presentations, three of which must be delivered extemporaneously.
  7. Select different examples of how Indiana conducts business internationally and analyze the problems that could be encountered in international business negotiations and communications.
  8. Identify the social, legal, ethical, and economic challenges of the global business environment, and discuss the added importance of cultural understanding
  9. Identify and describe the human resource functions in business through a global lens.
  10. Explain how the business decision making process in different areas of the world may be affected by the cultures, the political systems, and the economic systems of those areas.
  11. Identify the components of the Global Supply Chain, including marketing, production, manufacturing, and discuss what is necessary to lead the different components of a business.
  12. Identify the different legal forms of business ownership and how they affect global organizations.
