CRIM 155 - Introduction to Cyber Forensics


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College  and ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing , or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading & Writing

This course introduces students to an examination of computer- related crime and the legal issues in its investigation, with special emphasis on policing’s investigative response. The course surveys the subject of computer-related crime, cyber crime law, and computer crime investigation including the management and custody of evidence.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Understand computer terminology.
  2. Comprehend a summary history of computers.
  3. Comprehend traditional problems associated with computer crime.
  4. Be aware of the concept of cyberspace and criminal behavior.
  5. Analyze traditional computer crime.
  6. Analyze contemporary computer crime.
  7. Explain identity theft and identity fraud.
  8. Analyze terrorism and organized crime as expressed through computer crimes.
  9. Identify prospects for prosecution and related legal issues.
  10. Develop forensic science computer-related capabilities.
  11. Be aware of searching and seizing computer-related evidence.
  12. Process computer evidence and report presentations.
  13. Understand cyber crime and futuristics.
