Clinical application of principles and theories learned in DHYG 103 - Dental Radiography . Exposure, processing and management of intra and extra oral radiographs.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate proper infection control measures during radiology procedures.
  2. Demonstrate proper radiation safety measures during radiology procedures.
  3. Demonstrate proper quality control measures in the radiology area.
  4. Demonstrate proper care of the automatic processor.
  5. Demonstrate how to properly set up the automatic processor.
  6. Demonstrate how to properly position dental films for intraoral radiographs.
  7. Demonstrate how to properly align a patient for a panoramic radiograph.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to properly expose, process and mount the following radiographs:
    1. FMX
    2. Periapicals radiograph
    3. Panoramic radiograph
    4. Bitewing radiographs
  9. Demonstrate proper documentation of radiographic exposures in the patient’s chart.
  10. Properly identify landmarks on a FMX and panoramic radiograph.
  11. Self evaluate to determine the quality of exposed radiographs and determine the need for retakes.
